Welcome to The LUNAR ROUND

The Lunar Round is a series of summits that must be reached in order either clockwise or anti-clockwise, starting from various locations around the UK and with Full Moon, Half Moon and Crescent Moon options. The initial round was developed in The Lake District but we're expanding to other locations.

All Lunar Rounds must be completed between sunset and sunrise, with each season presenting it's own challenges.

The longer winter nights give plenty of time to complete your own Lunar Round but come with the added possibility of cold and wet conditions, meanwhile shorter summer nights offer a challenge to faster runners to complete in the limited hours between sunset and sunrise and can give better conditions underfoot, but can also be as wet as winter!

Lunar Rounds have Full Moon, Half Moon and Crescent Moon options:
FULL MOON is longer involving runs of an average 8 hours duration (4-11 hours depending on your own speed) and a good amount of vertical gain.
HALF MOON is for those still new to night running with a duration of around 4 hours (1-6 hours depending on your own speed) and far less vertical gain.
CRESCENT MOON is the shortest option and with the minimum of vertical gain.

For anyone completing their local Full Moon, Half Moon and Crescent Moon combo and so completing a TOTAL ECLIPSE (Jaffa Cake anyone?!), let us know!

The Lunar Round can be walked or run at any time of the year in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction, the only caveat being that you must complete your round between sunset and sunrise
As an example, for the Lake District Lunar Round In midwinter this can give around 15 hours to complete your round but you could face some challenging Lake District conditions! In mid summer the time available drops to around 6 1/2 hours and although conditions may be far better you might still experience some challenging conditions!

As usual, please exercise good mountain sense and be prepared for rapidly changing weather, night navigation and the full set of challenges a round can throw at you in the dark of our mountains.

The Lunar Round is a challenging prospect at anytime of the year, the option to have more or less time depending on the date adds a nice little extra!       James Elson - Ultra Running Legend
